I will embark on a journey of translating desi songs (to begin with), in languages I am familiar with (which aren’t many), into English. I am neither a writer nor a poet, so I kindly ask for your forgiveness regarding any imperfections in my translations. These are some of the most exquisite words put together, artfully composed to stir a wide range of emotions.
Why am I doing this?
1. For those already well-versed in the language, this project aims to evoke nostalgia or deepen your appreciation for the language and its poetic essence.
2. For those interested in the music or culture but unfamiliar with the language, I hope to reveal a beautiful, underrated aspect of it. While it is impossible to fully capture the emotions these words evoke, I will strive to convey them as best as I can.
3. Why not?
Feel free to offer constructive criticism or share your interpretations of the words - I believe there is no singular way to translate them. As with any translation, I will focus on conveying the emotion of the words, rather than aiming for a literal 1:1 translation.
